Rourkela

Konark wheel

There are certain things without which Orissa can’t be thought off. One of them is the Konark Wheel or Chaka.

The Lingaraja temple is said to have been built first by the ruler Yayati Kesari in the 7th century who shifted his capital from Jaipur to Bhubaneshwar.

This is one the oldest squares of Bhubaneswar, it was so named after an eatery which opened shop where the Lalchand shopping complex now stands. It has a large roundabout and in its center is one of the stone horses of the Konark Temple.

Baliguda

The site is located at a distance of 35 Kms from Baliguda ( 120 Kms from Phulbani) on the River Khadga.

Dhauligiri

The Dhauligiri (8 kms from Bhubaneswar), on the bank of the Daya river, stands in mute testimony, to the epoch - making Kalinga war, fought in the 3rd century BC. It is a unassuming, quite and unadorned place, a shrine, With a temple on the top of a hill. Dhauligiri temple is a Buddha temple. The temple is made of white stone, circular with a very broad dome at the top. Facing the four directions are four Buddha statues - the ones in which he seems so serene and all knowing in his enlightenment.

Chilika

Spread over an area of 1100 sq. Kms is situated at 100 kms from Bhubaneswar (on NH5 towards Khurda District). A drive on the national Highway no. 5 shall take you to this place that is separated from the Bay of Bengal by a narrow isthmus. It is located across the length of the three districts of Puri, Khurda and Ganjam.Chilika was declared a sanctuary in 1987. Winter is the loveliest time to visit Chilika with thousands of migratory birds (92 species in all) flying in from as far as Siberia, Iran ladakh, the Caspian Sea, Russia and other countries to make it their winter sojourn.
