The temple of Shiva Virupaksha in Chakapada, Phulbani district, is one of several places claiming to be the spot where Ravana, after propiciating Shiva and receiving a Lingam from him for worship in Lanka, had to stop for a moment on his way back home in order to follow a call of nature. Since Shiva had told him never to set the Lingam to the ground before arriving at home, he requested an old Brahmin to hold the stone for a moment, but it was to heavy for the old man and fell to the ground. From that moment it could not be removed any more, not even its slightly tilted position could be corrected.
