Similipal is the abode of 94 species of orchids and 1076 species of other plants. These include two species of orchids which are endemic, eight plants which are endangered, eight species whose status is vulnerable and 34 other rare species of plants.

One of the four dhamas of India, Puri is a sacred pilgrimage spot of India. It is famous for Lord Jagannth Temple.Built in the 12th century AD by the King Chodagangadeva of the Ganga Dynasty, it is the home to Lord Jagannath.

Ammakunda is one of the tourist places in Malkangiri District. It is situated at Khoirput Block near about 70 Kms. from the District Headquarter.This cool place embraces a natural water fall and subsequent flow of water forming a narrow gorge.

This is an important religious place in Malkangiri District as the famous God of the Malkangiri District (Lord Mahaprabhu) is being worshiped at this place.Every year during the month of March/April a festival is being celeberated here.

The river banks of Cuttack are protected by stone revetment, a great engineering marvel of the 11th century A.D. and a remarkable example of ancient technological skill of Orissa.

The temple of Shiva Virupaksha in Chakapada, Phulbani district, is one of several places claiming to be the spot where Ravana, after propiciating Shiva and receiving a Lingam from him for worship in Lanka, had to stop for a moment on his way back home in order to follow a call of nature. Since Shiva had told him never to set the Lingam to the ground before arriving at home, he requested an old Brahmin to hold the stone for a moment, but it was to heavy for the old man and fell to the ground. From that moment it could not be removed any more, not even its slightly tilted position could be corrected.

The Ramtirtha Crocodile Rearing Centrenear Jashipur is an exposure of different kind. It provides insight into the intricacy of nature and the man`s effort to restore the balance in nature.

Similipal is the richest watershed in the state of Orissa giving rise to many perennial rivers like Budhabalanga, Khadkei, Khairi, Bhandan, West Deo, Salandi, East Deo, Sanjo and Palpala. These rivers are the lifelines for the people of IMayurbhanj,Keonjhar, Balasore and Bhadrak districts.

Similipal is the land of the roar of the tiger and the trumpet of the elephant. Dense forest, rugged hilly terrain and wild animals combine to shape its wilderness. Certainly, a place for nature-sensitive visitors who can rough it out.
