ROURKELA, 3 JAN: A gas leak inside Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) affected four people today.
According to sources, the incident occurred around 5 in the morning. The gas leaked from Blast Furnace No 4 which had been shut down for maintenance work. The cause of the leakage is yet to be ascertained.
Speaking to The Statesman, Mr R Khan, chief of communication, RSP, said: “The exact reason of the leak is yet to be ascertained. It can only be established after a detailed inquiry”.
Meanwhile, the condition of the four victims, Mr P Lakra, assistant manager, Mr D Majhi, senior manager, and the two contract labourers Mr RD Khalid and Mr Saroj Mahanand, both employed by Shakti Enterprises, is reported to be stable. They are still in the ICU at Ispat General Hospital. “They are stable at this moment” said Mr Khan.
Unofficial sources, however, claimed that at least five more people were affected.
