BHUBANESWAR: Even as the Women’s Reservation Bill is being debated in Parliament, State BJP president Jual Oram today announced his team giving due representation to women.
For the first time 33 per cent of the State functionaries are women. Four of the vicepresidents and five of the secretaries are women.
Prominent among the women functionaries are former MP Archana Nayak, former MLA Sanchita Mohanty, Gayatri Dash and Bijyalaxmi Mishra (all vice-presidents).
The other vice-presidents are Bimbadhar Kuanr, Rudranarayan Pani, MP, Rajkishore Das, former MLA Aswini Kumar Patra, Asit Bose and Ashok Sahu.
While Panchanan Rout has been retained as general secretary (organisation), Nayan Mohanty, Pruthviraj Harichandan, former MLA Basanta Panda and Murli Manohar Sharma are the other State general secretaries.
The new State secretaries are Golak Mohapatra, Urmila Mohapatra, Tusar Jena, Surama Satpathy, Govind Agarwal, Ajay Dash, Debananda Mohapatra, Namitarani Sahu, Sukeshi Oram and Kamalini Mohanty.
While the composition of the new team is not very inspiring, many within the party believe that Oram has tried to keep a powerful faction of the party happy. A former president of the party Kuanr accepting the new assignment appears doubtful. As party president Debendra Pradhan once offered Kuanr the post of general secretary which the latter had turned down.
Some of the prominent leaders like Bijay Mohapatra, Braja Kishore Tripathy, Dilip Ray and Anadi Sahu have not been given any organisational responsibility. Oram said that he had recommended the names of some senior party leaders to central leadership for accommodation in national organisation and central executive of the party.
EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE: Oram has also constituted the State executive committee nominating 100 members. Thirty members of the committee are women. All the former presidents, MPs, MLAs, Zilla Parishad presidents and vice-presidents and presidents of different wings of the party are members. |
