Blood donation camp held to start Navy Week celebrations


KHURDA, Nov. 2: As part of its Navy Week celebrations, INS Chilka organised a blood donation camp in collaboration with the MKCG Medical College and Hospital, Berhampur.
The camp was held at the naval hospital at Nivarini where civilians and naval personnel especially young recruits donated blood. Blood bank official Mr Bharat Kumar Patnaik and his team from the medical college and hospital collected the blood.
Many other events are lined up at INS Chilka as part of the Navy Week celebrations. A health camp for the local populace will be conducted at Chhattargarh on 9 November and Barkul on 23 November. Indian Naval ships will be visiting Paradeep port on 16 November and will be open to public.
A sailing workshop cum Chilka lake mouth sailing expedition will be conducted at INS Chilka in association with the directorate of sports and youth services, Orissa in mid November in which as many as 150 youths from different districts of the state will take part. An inter-school quiz competition will be held on 23 November at INS Chilka where a large number of schools from all over the state are scheduled to participate. An inter school sports championship will also be held in football and volleyball on 24 and 28 November. A Navy Mela open to the local public will be held at INS Chilka from 28 to 30 November.
The Indian Navy celebrates 4 December as Navy Day every year. The event will be celebrated in the traditional manner at INS Chilka and will include beating the retreat, navy band display, fireworks display and continuity drill.
A film festival featuring popular Hindi, Oriya and English movies will be held from 5 to 8 December at INS Chilka.
A Navy Veteran Sailors reunion will be held on 7 December at INS Chilka wherein veteran sailors residing in the state will be invited for the event.
